A landmark over historic downtown Huntington, the fifteen-story West Virginia Building is located across the street from the Keith Albee Performing Arts Center and within 10 minutes walk of Marshall University, Pullman Square, the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, the Cabell County Courthouse, Harris Riverfront Park, and all that there is to do downtown!
The West Virginia Building was originally constructed by Meaner and Handloser as the “Union Bank and Trust Building” in 1925.
The bank failed in 1929 and the lobby became home to Walgreens. The building was renamed “The West Virginia Building,” because it was the tallest commercial building in West Virginia at the time (it is now the tallest residential building).
It has since been home to numerous businesses and distinguished Huntingtonians over the years including WSAZ-NewsChannel 3 and the former “Permon’s” and “Huntington Prime” restaurants on the top floor.
